Dubai Sylvester

Fr 2.1.2015 Happy New Year

One more day in Dubai, and tomorrow we will fly to India. All in all we spent 17 days in the UAE.At Port Rashid we found an agent easily (better: he found us, because on the parking lot at the harbour people are waiting for travellers to offer their services).

Before Christmas we made a date for the 30th December and on that day he managed everything. We put the car into a container. The container was brought by truck to another harbour. All papers were signed except the bill of loading, which we got the next day. And hopefully the container is on the vessel to India now, but you never know...

The 31st of December is a day like all the others here, maybe a bit more traffic. But almost all shops were open, so that we bought our flight tickets to Mumbai at 8 pm. After that we went to the beach with a bottle of champagne that we had obtained the day before in a special shop. It was not easy to find the shop, which was a bit outside of Dubai. But there we also found an affordable hotel for the last few days here,b ecause in Dubai centre all the hotels were booked out. But still we did some sightseeing in Dubai visiting the old dows at Deira and taking photos of lots of mosques.

Back to the beach: it was a bit chilly but of course much warmer than ever on New Year's Eve.  We had a wonderful view on the fireworks around Burj Khalifa. There were not too many spectators at the beach, some families, some pairs. The fireworks lasted for eight minutes and then we went back to the hotel by taxi. Because of the traffic we needed an hour, and we had to play navigator which is pretty common here because most taxi drivers are foreigners and if you are lucky they understand where you want to go.
